Poster for young Estonian artists exhibition
The Tallinn City Museum asked me to design a poster for an exhibition of young Estonian artists. The brief called for something eye-catching, printed at large format for display inside the museum building.

As a starting point I went through Armin Hofmann's "Graphic Design Manual", looking at the posters that came out of the Basel school.

The exhibiting artists were Estonian, and I wanted the design to carry a trace of that, so I turned to the typographic work of the Estonian avant-garde artist Raul Meel.

From these references I built the layout on a grid of four columns and four rows, with Josef Müller-Brockmann's "Grid Systems in Graphic Design" as the main guide.

Below is one of the variations. I was after something simple that still worked.
